Big Book - 16 million business entries plus a map program. Type an address and a small map will be retrieved showing its location.

Bigfoot - Large database of e-mail addresses and residential listings. Some business listings, though not as extensive as other directories.

Chambers of Commerce Directory - Type in a city and it returns the address and telephone of the chamber of commerce.

Chicago Yellow Pages ( - Searchable directory of Chicago.

FindLaw - Searchable directory of law firms, government offices, corporate law offices, and lawyers.

InfoSpace - Business and individual listings, fax numbers, local information, e-mail addresses, and government listings for the U.S. and Canada. Clicking on the name displays an e-mail address (if the individual has one); clicking on the address produces a map.

International Telephone Directories (Infobel) - Comprehensive set of links to international white and yellow pages telephone directory services.

National Toll Free Directory - Guide to products and services nationwide.

PeopleSpot - Find people, listings of people, more.

Super Pages - Directory of over 10 million business phone numbers and over 60,000 World Wide Web sites.

Switchboard - Free, nationwide residential and business directory. 6 million residential, 10 million business. Registered users can also obtain e-mail addresses (registration involves a cost).

Yahoo! People Search - Listings of individuals derived from public sources linked to Bell (telephone) Companies. Unlisted phone numbers do not appear.

General Indexes

National School, College and Library Locator - The National Center for Education Statistics provides this search tool for locating US public elementary and secondary schools. Data includes number of teachers, total students, student/teacher ratio, and school population by grade and race/ethnicity.

Sheet Music Magazine Index - From the Sterling (Texas) Municipal Library.

United States Postal Service Zip Code Lookup - Zip+4 lookup. Type in an address and get the zip+4 code; or type a zip code and get the associated city.


Do it Yourself State Maps - Customize and print state maps showing county boundaries. Color-code and label the counties too.

Geographic Names Information System - Input a city, town or feature (cemetery, school, river, creek, mine, etc.) and this system will display the county name, elevation, latitude and longitude, and variant names. Good source for finding the name of the county in which a town is located. From U.S. Geological Survey.

Google Maps - Type an address, get a map; switch between map view and satellite photo view.

IndianaMap - Statewide map for Indiana, including GIS information and more.

Maps On Us - Type an address and get a map or set of directions to that address; plan a route by entering the starting and ending address and receive driving directions; directions and maps can be mailed to any e-mail address; hear spoken directions for a chosen route.

National Map - Create and customize maps with features such as streets and roads, historic sites, topographical detail.
